Cleft lip and cleft palate repair is surgery to fix birth defects of the upper lip and palate. A cleft lip may be just a small notch in the lip and may also be a complete split in the lip that goes all the way to the base of the nose. Cleft palate is a congenital deformity that causes a multitude of problems and represents a special challenge to the medical community. Special care is needed for patients with cleft palate.
