Abstract

This chapter focuses on intensive care for pediatric patients. Children who require intensive care are usually critically ill as a result of an accident, acute medical illness or life-threatening surgical condition. Timely and appropriate management can save the lives. Child may require intensive care when they are low birth weight baby or an acute illness is superimposed on a chronic condition or congenital anomaly. This chapter covers the resuscitation, stabilization, and monitoring of pediatric patients, bili lights, and bili blanket. A Bili blanket is a portable phototherapy device for the treatment of neonatal hyperbilirubinemia. Bili Blanket is a colloquial term for a range of similar products and the term used in the medical professions. Bili blankets can be used for treating some degrees of jaundice at home as long as the baby is otherwise healthy.
