This chapter focuses on the child with a musculoskeletal alteration. The musculoskeletal system provides form, support, stability, and movement to the body. It is made up of the bones of the skeleton, muscles, cartilage, tendons, ligaments, joints, and other connective tissues that supports and binds tissues and organs together. The bones of the body perform five main functions such as provide support for the body, store minerals and lipids, produce blood cells, protect body organs, and provide leverage and movement. Disorders of musculoskeletal system are limb defects, avascular necrosis (AVN), scoliosis, bracing, fracture, osteomyelitis, and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis briefly explained along with their pathophysiology, signs and symptoms, causes, diagnosis, and treatment.
