Abstract

A medicine or other remedy for counteracting the effects of poison, disease, etc. something that prevents or counteracts injurious or unwanted effects. The antidotes for some particular toxins are manufactured by injecting the toxin into an animal in small doses and extracting the resulting antibodies from the host animals\' blood. Antidotes include acetylcysteine, bupropion, charcoal, desferrioxamine, dimercaprol, disulfiram, mesna, naloxone, penicillamine, physostigmine, pralidoxime, and succimer. Action, uses, dosage, brands, side effects, and nursing consideration of all these drugs are also discussed in this chapter.
