Abstract

Antimigraine drug are used for acute treatment of migraine headaches. These should be given at the first sign of headache. These agents should only be used during a migraine attack and are meant for relief of attacks but cannot prevent or decrease the number of attacks. Antimigraine drug includes alpha-adrenergic blockers and 5-HT1 agonists. Alpha-adrenergic blockers include dihydroergotamine and ergotamine. 5-HT1 agonists include rizatriptan and sumatriptan. Action uses, dosage, and side effect of all these drugs are also covered in this chapter.
