Abstract

The objective of this chapter is to introduce the sex cord tumors of ovary. Sex cord stromal tumor is derived from sex cord and specialized stromal cells of ovary. The tumor comprises of granulosa cells, fibroblasts, theca cells, Sertoli cells and Leydig cells, which are discussed in throughout the chapter. Sex cord stromal tumor represents 10% of all ovarian tumors. The tumor that are composed of ovarian cell types are estrogenic, whereas, the tumors that are composed of testicular cell type are androgenic in nature. Both types may be non-functioning. Gynandroblastomas are also very rare type of sex cord stromal tumor. This tumor is characterized by admixture of both granulosa cell tumor and sex-cord stromal tumors. A detailed discussion on sex cord tumor with annular tubules has been provided in this chapter. A well-illustrated table on distinguishing features between adult and juvenile granulosa cell tumor and 62 well-colored figures are also presented in this chapter.
