Abstract

This chapter focuses on gross examination of the samples and synoptic reporting format. Systemic examination of the specimen is a prerequisite for the correct diagnosis and management. Proper examination and sampling help to identify the lesion with its extent. It thereby reduces the turn overtime of reporting and also reduces the overall cost. Identification of the specimen and matching with the requisition form, specimen preservative fluid, type of the operation and essential clinical history are the essential things required before grossing. Cervical specimen and uterine specimen are two types of individual specimens. Vulvectomy specimen, salpingectomy specimen, examination of the placenta, oophorectomy and synoptic reporting of gynecological lesions are also discussed in this chapter. 11 well-colored figures are also presented in this chapter, which are very useful for students and readers for better understanding.
