The aim of this chapter is to focus on the hip pain. Hip pain is a common musculoskeletal complaint that can have multiple potential etiologies. Given the high prevalence of and treatment costs for musculoskeletal conditions, it is important to find effective methods to evaluate and manage common causes of hip pain. The chapter and the flow diagram are based on evidence-based evaluation and management of intra-articular causes of hip pain. Addressing functional limitations through physical therapy is a mainstay treatment for most etiologies of hip pain. The goals of physical therapy include addressing the underlying biomechanical contributors to the etiology of hip pain, patient education, and developing a home exercise program to optimize function and reduce pain.
