Cardiac surgeries and cardiac special procedures have brought out dramatic changes in health care facilities. Cardiac surgeries has expanded the treatment option for coronary artery disease, valvular dysfunction, aneurysms, congenital deformities, conduction disturbance and end stage of cardiac disease. Cardiac surgeries helped to meet the societal demand with less traumatic interventions. Cardiac surgeries are again classified as open heart surgeries or closed heart surgeries depending on whether the heart is opened during surgery or not opened during surgeries. This chapter covers the valvular surgeries, types of valves, pacemaker, cardioversion and defibrillation, intra-aortic balloon pumping, cardiac transplantation, and cardiopulmonary bypass. Pacemaker is a device used to provide an electrical stimulus to heart, when the heart is failing to do so. It has a pulse generator delivers battery-supplied electrical stimulus and maintains the heart rate. Cardiac transplantation is the effective treatment of choice for client with end-stage heart disease. It significantly prolongs the life of the patient.
