Abstract

This chapter define and basic principles of counseling. Counseling is the intimate and vital part of entire guidance. Counseling is a dynamic and purposeful relationship between two people, who approach a mutually defined problem with mutual consideration for each other to the end that the younger or less mature, or more troubled of the two is aided to a self-determined resolution of his/her problem. The concept of counseling will be clear to you by knowing its meaning, characteristics and functions. Counseling involves two individuals, i.e. one seeking help and the other, a professionally trained person, who can help the first. Like guidance, Counseling has also three fold functions adjust mental, oriental and developmental. Three types of counseling are directive counseling, non-directive counseling, and eclectic counseling briefly discussed.
