This handbook “Clinic Consult Pulmonology: Tuberculosis” will be helpful to the practicing physicians dealing with management of tuberculosis. An attempt has been made to give precise information on the history, epidemiology, etiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, and diagnosis of tuberculosis. Pertinent information on management issues are given that will help the physicians to make a quick decision for a proper prescription. This hand book comprises of total 10 chapters. In the first chapter, a detailed discussion on the history of tuberculosis has been provided. Epidemiology of tuberculosis is covered in second chapter. Third chapter covers a broad discussion on organism responsible for tuberculosis. Pathogenesis, pathology, and clinical presentation of tuberculosis are described in chapter four to six. Although radiological picture of tuberculosis may mimic other lung diseases, there may be certain characteristic features that may suggest pulmonary tuberculosis, which are discussed briefly in chapter seven. Eighth chapter deals with the discussion on laboratory diagnosis of tuberculosis. A number of antituberculosis drugs are available, although development of newer drugs took a long time. The time-tested 5 important drugs i.e. isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, ethambutol, and streptomycin are discussed in detail in the ninth chapter. The Revised National Tuberculosis Control Program (RNTCP) has published the new Technical and Operational Guidelines in 2016 for tuberculosis control in India. They are discussed in the last chapter of this book.
