Fungal diseases are common dermatologic complaints in medical practice and definitely one of the commonest skin infections seen worldwide. In fact, a lifetime risk of acquiring dermatophytosis is said to be 10–15%. What has been surprising and alarming recently, is the rising incidence of recalcitrant dermatophytosis and the failure of superficial fungal infections of the skin to respond to conventional doses of antifungals. In this book “World Clinics Dermatology: Fungal Infections of the Skin”, dermatologists and mycologists have been brought together to provide rich insights into classification, taxonomy, clinical features, laboratory diagnosis, and management of superficial, subcutaneous, and systemic mycoses. Although superficial fungal infections have still received attention, subcutaneous and systemic mycoses have received less attention. This book comprises of total 15 chapters. A chapter has been devoted to tinea incognito, which is very pertinent in a country like India and Asia where topical steroid abuse is rampant. Dermatomycologists have also provided perspectives on changing and rising incidence of fungal infections, causes of resistance and topical, systemic, and physical therapies for fungal infections.
