Abstract

This chapter talks about otorhinolaryngology. This chapter is divided into four sections that cover the tonsillitis, sinusitis, otitis media, foreign body in ear, and nose and throat. Acute tonsillitis is a self-limiting condition. Treatment is mainly aimed at symptomatic improvement with adequate hydration. The liberal use of antibiotics has caused a surge in incidence of resistant microorganism. Sinusitis refers to a group of disorders characterized by inflammation of the mucosa of the paranasal sinuses. However, as the mucosal lining of the nose and paranasal sinuses are continuous the term rhinosinusitis is more appropriate. Otitis media comprises a group of inflammatory disease of the middle ear cleft and can be widely classified into two conditions following as nonsuppurative otitis media or otitis media with effusion (OME) and suppurative otitis media.
