In these days of ‘ mail’ and ‘cell’, ‘net-surfing’ and downloading, laptop and power point presentation today's obstetrician would rather talk about NST and BPP, Doppler and lactate card, oximetry and NIRS than bland obstetrics specially labour room obstetrics (isn't it called midwifery?) because it is not stylish - if not old fashioned. But women still have to arrive in delivery room to collect their happiness and obstetricians still have to deliver that emaculately from her person. This book intends to help the serving obstetrician to perform this vital duty in the way most appropriate for the situation.
While reading this book, margin should be allowed for constant progress of the science and individual author's own experience and his or her own synthetic view.
This book has been written with the postgraduates and their seasoned examiners in mind and, of course, with the highest consideration for the greatest VIP—the mother.
The book has been extensively referenced upto, as recent as, 2001 - hence style is also covered as well as the sacred simplicity.
My sincere thanks to all the learned contributors to this book and also to all those who suffered for the process of its production.
Happy delivering!
AK Debdas
