5Preface
There has been a long felt need for a comprehensive Manual of Gynaecologic Oncology for the postgraduate students as well as practicing gynaecologists. This manual has been written to fill the gap. It is hoped that it will aid both the teaching and practice of gynaecologic oncology, and serve as a unique, comprehensive, current reference book in the libraries of medicine.
Gynaecologic Oncology is a wide-ranging subject covering many fields of specialization. Separate chapters have been written on basics of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. Special stress has been laid on the practical aspects of gynaecologic oncology.
Every attempt has been made to present the latest advances in a concise and lucid form so that they are within the comprehension of the students preparing for their graduate and postgraduate examinations.

6Foreword
Gynaecologic Oncology is an important and substantive medical discipline with a developing scholarly scientific foundation and a burgeoning clinical application.
Cancer of the female genital tract is a leading cause of death among women. In India, the problem is compounded by late detection of cases and non-availability of adequate treatment facilities to the population at large. Stress has to be laid on awareness about the benefits of early detection of cancer and prompt multidisciplinary treatment resulting in better overall survivals. This manual also deals with the standards of care for various malignancies of the female genital tract.
The Manual of Gynaecologic Oncology will be very useful for the postgraduate students and the practicing gynaecologists. The range of subjects reflects the thoroughness with which the treatise deals with the subject and attests to the value this book will have for the readers.
