5Preface to the Second Edition
Indeed, it is a pleasure to bring about radical changes in the contents of Dermatology Drug Directory published over a decade and half ago. During the period, there have been sweeping additions and subtractions in the drugs used in practice of the specialty. Also, there was a prime need to add instant diagnosis of common skin diseases, and to illustrate them with exquisite colour photographs. The preceding additions have made, and it has given a refreshing dimension for the consumers. The salient features for making clinical diagnosis have precisely been defined and large majority of them have been documented through coloured photographs. The undergraduate students/those postgraduate students being introduced to the specialty or medical practitioner should find it easy to carry the document for their day-to-day consultation. Surely, this should prove a boon in their day-to-day diagnosis. Having done that they may turn over the pages to enrich themselves with the various modalities of treatment along with their details with generic and trade names. The inclusion of selected patent formulary may further facilitate their day-to-day requirements. All in all, this document should prove worthy of the arduous endeavours put in the compilation of a text, which is very much in demand in the Indian context. It should prove useful as a ready reckoner for those under-privileged practicing in rural settings, under-developed and developing countries. It should be an enlightening experience for those practicing in advanced country of the world. Here is a new look gesture on common skin diseases, instant diagnosis and treatment meant to fulfil the ever-increasing aspiration of the readers.6
Furthermore, should there be any bottlenecks, please, feel free either to communicate directly or consult “Textbook of Clinical Dermatology (4th edition), Sexually Transmitted Diseases (Venereal Diseases, 4th edition), Clinical Leprosy, (4th edition), Donovanosis (2nd edition) and Histoid Leprosy, (2nd edition), by the author. 7Preface to the First Edition
Understanding of drug therapy in the specialty of Derma-tology, Venereology and Leprosy, in particular, is paramount for practitioners who have been responsible for managing most of these patients. Common skin diseases are not difficult to diagnose. Their treatment, however, may be a handicap. An endeavour in preparation of the present Dermatologic Drug Directory has been made to bring together scattered information of their management under this caption, in order to facilitate the family physicians. Commonly used systemic and topical drugs, their availability, dosages, side/untoward effects and contraindications may provide a ready reference and meet the growing needs of the family physicians, medical students, resident doctors and also specialists absorbed in alleviating dermatosis, venereal diseases and leprosy.
