5Acknowledgements
We wish to express our sincere thanks to everyone who has contributed to make this book possible. Our special thanks to Dr S Natarajan, Medical Director, Aditya Jyot Eye Hospital, Mumbai (for being kind enough to provide us with the ICG photographs), Dr MS Ravindra, Medical Director, Karthik Nethralaya, Bangalore, Dr Rekha Gyanchand, Cornea Consultant, Lion's Eye Hospital, Bangalore and Dr Sirish, Glaucoma Consultant, Nethradama, Bangalore. We are indebted to our Medical Director Dr K Bhujang Shetty, who not only toyed with the idea of this book but also procured these new ophthalmic toys for us! We also thank all our colleagues and Postgraduates at our hospital for contributing various chapters. Thanks are also due to our publishers and to our secretarial staff for their untiring help.
6Contributors 7Preface
The eye is unique among the various organs of the body in that it lends itself to easy examination and evaluation. Despite this fact, certain portions of the eye could not hitherto be examined and, therefore, understanding of these disease processes was rather naive if not totally hypothetical. Thanks to advances in technology, we now have various imaging tools in our armamentarium that ‘sees the hitherto unseen’ and that has led to better understanding of disease processes and thereby their treatments too. Needless to say, this would translate into more ‘sights’ saved.
Lack of a compact book with details of most of these newer imaging systems in ophthalmology was what prompted us to embark on this venture. The book is specifically aimed at the postgraduate residents in ophthalmology as well as the practising ophthalmologist and is not a comprehensive one by any means—the goal being to tell ‘something about everything new’.
As this is a book about newer imaging techniques in ophthalmology it is only natural to expect that other nascent techniques on the horizon viz anterior segment OCT, Scheimpflug imaging, IOL masters, confocal microscopy etc would appear in the future editions.
We hope you will find this book both enjoyable and informative.
