6PREFACE
The present volume Step by Step Critical Care provides a concise coverage of various aspects of critical care medicine. It is intended to provide a convenient and rapid source of information related to the subject. It is written in a simple and easy-to-understand format. Some major health disorders commonly encountered in critical care units are being selected to discuss in this volume. Each disease dealt in this volume is discussed with relevant practical aspects of the day-to-day care with particular reference to aetiology, pathophysiology, clinical manifestations, diagnosis and management. Various information and useful laboratory data are presented in accompanying CD ROM.
The book admittedly does not include discussion on all possible diseases treated in critical care units. If the readers find this effort worthwhile, it is my intent to develop it further in next editions.
I am thankful to Shri Jitendar P Vij, Chairman and Managing Director of Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd., who suggested the particular topic and actively cooperated at all stages of publication of this book.
I sincerely hope the presentation of this volume should satisfy the basic needs of all practising physicians, particularly those interested in critical care medicine.
