5Foreword
It gives me immense pleasure to write the foreword for this excellent book on neurophysiotherapy, which I have no doubt will be of great help to the undergraduate students. Neurophysiotherapy is for those who have sustained a neurological injury from a brain or incomplete spinal cord injury, stroke or a disease processes like multiple sclerosis. Neurophysiotherapy is a fast emerging specialized field in physiotherapy, where students need reference material on this subject but sadly there are few books on neurophysiotherapy and this is the first such book by an Indian author. This book provides details on working with neurological movement disorders both adult and pediatric with a theoretical basis for clinical practice. It will enhance the physiotherapists’ awareness of other aspects of client management and will provide them with a framework to develop evidence-based practice.
Prof Glady Samuel Raj has been associated with Padmashree Institute of Physiotherapy since many years. I must say as the head of the institution, he has set standards of excellence in teaching and he is also a very good therapist who gives utmost importance to the patients and their well-being. He has an authority in the field of neurophysiotherapy and responsible for the name and fame of Padmashree Institute of Physiotherapy in South-East Asia.
I do hope that Prof Glady Samuel will continue his good work and bring out many more books pertaining to the field of physiotherapy for the benefit of the student community. I admire Prof Glady Samuel for keeping the contents of the book very simple and more importantly for keeping the cost of this book within the reach of the students community.

6Preface
It gives me immense pleasure to present my first edition of this book titled “Physiotherapy in Neuro-conditions” to all the physiotherapy students and professionals. This effort of mine is only a small mark of respect and passion for my profession that has given me so much during the last one decade.
Neurological physiotherapy is one of the mainstream physiotherapy branches with tremendous potential and prospect. Althoug stroke may be popular conditions in neurology, which demands constant intervention by a physiotherapist, but there are still many conditions where physiotherapy becomes very essential both as a conservative measure and after surgical intervention. If fifty percent of improvement during the treatment of a neurological conditions is through medication or surgery then the remaining fifty percent is definitely by physiotherapy.
Thus, all the common neurological conditions treated by the physiotherapists have been included in this book, which I believe will be of great use to the readers.
The book is written keeping in mind the undergraduate students of physiotherapy and hence does not focus too much upon the investigations or the differential diagnosis.
The main aim of this textbook was to present the fact of neurological physiotherapy to the students in the most simplified manner possible so that it would be easy for them to grasp its content.
The language used is very simple and the content very concise that will enable maximum information be reproduced by the students in the exam without having to put in too much effort.
I firmly believe that it is not so important to write as much as I can in a textbook but it is how much the readers have understood and can remember that matters the most. Thus, this book is written keeping in mind the same principle.
Although the book is concise, but it is definitely updated with all possible recent advances in the field of neurological physiotherapy. All 7 suggestion and comments will be accepted by me with a warm welcome and would further motivate me during such similar venture. I sincerely hope that the readers thoroughly enjoy reading every word in the textbook that will make me feel that my effort has paid me rich dividends.
Glady Samuel Raj
