It gives me an immense sense of pleasure to constitute the foreword of this important book”Short Textbook of Physiology” compiled and constituted by Dr. KC Mathur — one of our staff members.
The staff members having a long association with the subject must compile such books; since they are regularly dealing with the subject along with changing trends. Author has taken this task to compile this book - which is of the subject classed as building block of medicine.

It gives me a great sense of pleasure, privilege and honour to write foreword of this book written by my staff member and an accomplished teacher—Dr. KC Mathur.
I am sure, this book will fulfil the needs of both under and postgraduate students since the author has tried to accommodate all the relevant information for them. The question bank, multiple choice questions, viva voce questions after every unit along with glossary will further help them in assimilating the logical sequence.

11PREFACE
Long teaching career inspires a man to compile — a book which is his feelings, his teachings, his profession, etc. and one must do it since as a teacher it is his duty to impart the knowledge. Same is true and applicable for me. So I took the challenge and now this compilation is in your hands.
At many places attention has been paid on language, flow along with presentation. I hope readers will appreciate it.
Many chapters have been included for postgraduates in “appendix” and within various units. It is for them to get all these things at one place.
For students, question bank, (questions which have appeared in various examinations) objective and viva-voce questions have been compiled immediately at the end of one respective unit. I am sure, it will be of much benefit for my readers.
I am thankful to my Principal, Dr. DP Punia for his constant encouragement, Head of Department, Dr. (Mrs) Sushila Gahlot for her valuable suggestions, Dr. BK Jain, Professor and Head, Department of Pharmacology for his constant help in compiling some of the topics of his domine, and my other departmental colleagues — Dr. DK Srivastava, Dr. Rajesh Pathak, Dr. (Mrs) Nalini Kiri, Dr. Kailash Ojha, Dr. DK Devra, and Dr. BK Binawara, Miss Reshu Gupta, Miss Poornima Sharma for their help, moral support and valuable advises to compile this book.
