5Preface
The oral cavity or stomatodeum is considered as the mirror of the body. Many systemic diseases have their oral manifestations. So a good clinician should have a firm knowledge of Oral Histology which is the fundamental science for understanding the intricate morphologies of oral and paraoral tissues.
There are several excellent textbooks available on Oral Histology. Essentials of Oral Histology has been written with a view to present the subject to the undergraduate dental students in a more simplified manner for their easy assimilation. It is a humble attempt to fill the niche for the students of dentistry with the current information about the development, structure and function of teeth and associated tissues.
I assume all the responsibilities for errors and omissions in this book. I sincerely welcome the constructive suggestions from the students and the teachers for further improvement of this maiden effort.
Kabita Chatterjee
