FM9Foreword
Diagnostic and minor procedures are always taken lightly by all, the teachers in the subject, practitioners and patients alike. But we all know that even these can create disastrous problems and can even kill. It is, therefore, quite apt that we have a book devoted to these aspects of surgery in clinical practice. Balanced distributions of subjects including the short procedures have been envisaged to be comprehensively covered in this book. Dissemination of information on these would be a good guide for students and practitioners, both. With senior teachers getting involved in authoring of the book, I feel this will become a reliable reference book.
Knowledge, money and water should always flow lest they stink. For keeping pace with current advances in science, we have to run to be at the same place. This book is making knowledge flow. I am sure it will gather lots of blessing from its readers who would ultimately use this knowledge for the service of humanity and mankind.
God bless you!

FM11Preface
Students and doctors in developing countries are faced with challenges working in wide variety of conditions and facilities ranging from primitive to the most technically advanced.
Medicine continues to become more complex but nevertheless more interesting with newer advancements in diagnostic and therapeutic techniques. The advent of ultrasound and endoscopy in gynaecology and obstetrics has revolutionised the diagnosis and management of diseases in women.
The objective of editing this book is to compile the commonly used diagnostic procedures in detecting various physiological and pathological conditions in women and to link scientific advances with clinical practice so that management of disease can be based on sound physiological concept. There is an endeavor to discuss all practical details of various diagnostic techniques, with their importance, indications, contraindications and complications. Along with diagnostic techniques, emphasis has been laid on minor surgical interventions.
The aim of bringing out this book is to discuss diagnostic procedures and minor operative techniques done in day to day practice of gynaecology and obstetrics. It is important to have lucid and detailed knowledge of when to do, how to do and what to do in a particular patient. The book compiles all such procedures at one place for ready reference. The book will not only serve as an important guide for the postgraduates and practising doctors, where most of the relevant information is available at one place but also benefit in improving their diagnostic skills and clinical approach.
