5Preface to the Second Edition
It is indeed gratifying that the second edition of A Handbook of Practical Pediatrics book is being published due to overwhelming response of the students, teachers and practicing pediatricians.
In the preface of first edition we invited suggestions for making further improvements in this book. We are very happy to note that valuable suggestions were received particularly from students. The contents of first edition are revised in the light of suggestions received, though the topics and chapters remain unchanged. The book comprises of methodology of case presentation, salient features of important drugs and vaccines, important features of common instruments, X-rays and their reporting, etc.
The purpose of writing this book will be accomplished if the pediatric community comprising of students, teachers and practitioners find this book useful.

6Preface to the First Edition
This is my second book for the students of pediatrics. The first book “Essential MCQs in Pediatrics”, was written with the sole objective of helping the students to prepare for the theory examination. I hope that the students must have found the book useful.
After the publication of my aforesaid book, many students have approached me with a request to write a book which will be useful for them for practical examination. Taking this clue and noticing the absence of any such book for the practical examination of Pediatrics, I decided to write this book.
I have been maintaining a close contact with the students of Pediatrics in the capacity of teacher, guide and examiner. My experience of last 22 years tells me that this book will fulfill the longfelt need of students. This book comprises of methodology of case presentation, salient features of important drugs and vaccines, important features of common instruments, X-rays and their reporting, etc. as these are the various stations in examination.
The purpose of writing this book will be accomplished if the students of graduation and postgraduation level find it useful and result-oriented. I hope this book will also be useful for teachers.
Any suggestions for further improvement in this book are welcome.
