Abstract

In spite of much knowledge base on bronchial asthma, many cases are still missed for lack of proper clinical evaluation, or the disease itself presenting with very subtle manifestations. The various subtle manifestations like chronic cough without wheeze could be confusing to a clinician who is not aware of the possibility of cough variant asthma in children. Appropriate classification of patients with bronchial asthma would also lead to providing the optimal treatment for the condition. This chapter provides a detailed discussion on various clinical presentations, predisposing factors, investigations and treatment protocols for this condition. The chapter also provides an overview of utility of pulmonary function tests in this chronic disorder.
