Asthma is not a curable disease. Hence, much needs to be done to prevent recurrent attacks in the form of reliever and prophylactic therapy. The drug armamentarium for the acute and chronic management of the condition is exhaustive. This chapter provides a very simplified yet practical approach to drug therapy in this chronic condition. Drugs used both in acute as well as long term management are discussed in detail. The various adverse effects and drug interactions to be considered in the process of drug prescription has been emphasised so as to make a judicious choice of drugs in asthma.
