Abstract

The mainstay of long term management of asthma is inhaled steroids. This along with environmental modification and a few adjuvant drugs could bring in excellent control of asthma in most cases. However there still remain a few cases who are non responders to conventional treatment, who might benefit from immunotherapy. Careful selection of these patients based on a meticulous history and clinical evaluation could guide the need for immunotherapy. Although, still in infancy of its introduction into clinical practise, its awareness is essential to the clinicians for providing yet another option to the patients who doesn’t respond to the conventional treatment. This chapter deals with the basic principles of immunotherapy and their clinical utility.
