Pneumonia is a major cause of mortality and morbidity in developing countries. National programmes are in place for creating awareness regarding this condition with regard to early diagnosis, referral and management. Involvement of health workers who are in first contact with the patients would go a long way in prompt diagnosis, referral and management. This chapter delves into the various aspects of diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia based on simple clinical signs and judicious use of investigations.
