Although Pediatric Pulmonology has evolved as a major subspeciality in the last two decades, it has not received its due importance. As a result, there is a scarcity of books on this subject. The clinicians have to depend on the very few textbooks and references that are often not handy.
This book compiled by Dr Gopakumar and Dr Reeshma Gopakumar is indeed a great help to medical students and practicing doctors. All the common problems seen in pediatric pulmonology day-to-day practice have been dealt with in great detail. The case discussions incorporated under various chapters makes reading all the more interesting and useful for medical students.
Dr Gopakumar is very popular for his teaching skills and is a brilliant academician. I congratulate Dr Gopakumar and his wife for their hard work and wish them all success.

6Preface
Respiratory system disorders form the major portion of cases attended by any pediatric practitioner. Majority of morbidity and mortality are also related to the same disorders. Hence, there is a need to understand this subspeciality with relative thoroughness.
This book is an attempt to provide a rational approach to pediatric pulmonology practice. The questions discussed are those that often arose during various interactive sessions with clinicians and students. Hence, the work stems from the clinical inquisitiveness of the clinicians and students.
This book is meant for undergraduates, postgraduates and practicing pediatricians. The common problems and their management are discussed in order to evolve the most effective treatment strategy, thereby providing maximum benefit to the patient.
Questions frequently asked in viva voce are included for the benefit of undergraduates and postgraduates. Information on recent advances in pediatric pulmonology which would be of special interest to the postgraduates and practicing pediatricians are also incorporated. Further, a stepwise management protocol is included under various headings to provide clear cut treatment guidelines.
As our surfing for a helpful readable book in the field of pediatric pulmonology could not bring any fruitful results, we embarked on this venture in the hope of filling up this deficiency. All constructive criticisms are welcome.
