It is now generally accepted that the best success story in globalized medicine is the development of Ian Donald Inter-University School of Medical Ultrasound. At the moment there are 37 international branches and without any doubt this number will increase at the time of publication of this book. They all till now have been running advanced courses for which second edition of best-selling textbook has been just done. Some of us believed that apart from advanced courses and advanced textbook there is a need for basic course and basic textbook. Being strongly stimulated by School directors, Asim Kurjak and Frank Chervenak, I accepted a pleasant duty to edit this book together with my colleagues, Zehra Nese Kavak from Istanbul and Abdallah Adra from Tripoli. To be very honest with the readers, we had a very modest pretension in editing this basic textbook. However, contributors earn our great respects for the careful work producing quite comprehensive chapters richly illustrated with a number of original pictures. We are very grateful to all of them.
If it often said that the book is already old at the time of publication. In such a rapid development of ultrasonic technologies we are quite aware of this fact of life. However, those of you highly enthusiastic for permanent improving in ultrasonic diagnosis, should use our quarterly published educational journal which is very useful addition to textbook updating you with technology or clinical results from the last months’ discoveries. Enjoy your textbook which we do believe will be both informative and stimulating.
