Abstract

In this chapter the two stage, and one stage operations of apicectomy are described. What is two-stage apicectomy operation? How it is performed? What are the advantages of this technique are described. What is one-stage (Immediate root resection) apicectomy operation? Why it is needed? What are its advantages? etc. are described in detail. Indications of root resection and curettage operation are described in 16 points; its contraindications are described in 6 points, its result, mandatory steps of operation, like premedication, anesthesia, etc. are described in 6 points, surface tomography to accurately locate the hidden root tip under the mucosa and alveolar bone (which is so essential for location of the correct tooth to be operated), is described in 9 points. Immediate (one step) root resection, its operational steps (10 steps), use of GP points with zinc-oxide eugenol cement, use of newer materials instead of GP points with zinc-oxide eugenol cement, use of latest ‘ultrasonic tips’ instead of bur for root resection and “retro-fillings”, their brand names like; AP-4-90-tip, or CT-1-tip, and the complete technique for “retro-filling” is all described. The postoperative complications, apicectomy in posterior teeth, consent performa of the patient for operation for ‘medicolegal’ safety of the operator are also given.
