Practice of obstetric nursing has become an interesting and challenging experience for practicing nurses as well as students of midwifery. In order to keep in pace with the expansion and advancement of knowledge and to master the skills needed for practice, nurse educators and midwifery students require adequate theoretical information and practice guidelines.
The “Midwifery Casebook” for BSc Nursing students includes an outline of learning requirements and contents are organized according to the revised syllabus of Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Karnataka (2007) and Indian Nursing Council Syllabus (2004). Formats for entering client data and notes on nursing process for clients in various stages of childbearing process and newborn period are included.
Brief notes on maternal newborn care, selected nursing procedures and nursing diagnoses are part of the casebook for reference of undergraduate students as they engage in planning, implementing and evaluating nursing care to such clients.
This practical record book, I feel will be of much help to BSc Nursing students to provide comprehensive care to their maternal and newborn clients as well as record the information in a systematic manner.

Today's nurses are challenged to make quick, yet critical and informed decisions about a variety of patient problems occurring within their practice sphere. Knowledge of all aspects of childbirth is an essential requirement for all students of midwifery as they start learning clinically. Having a reference source ready at hand often proves helpful.
In order to meet such a need, brief notes on important topics in obstetric nursing are included in this casebook. The content of this section covers notes on maternal pelvis and fetal skull, the process of labor and delivery as well as care of mothers and newborns. A few nursing diagnoses for maternal and newborn clients are also included in order to provide guidelines for students to plan and provide relevant and needbased nursing care to their clients.FM10
