This concise book presents in-depth information of various surgical procedures and their complications, each supported by well-drawn illustrations and photographs. Many voluminous books are available which describe the surgical procedures in detail, but rarely we see books highlighting the complications in a cogent and orderly manner. Few describe them but with illustrations only and not with supportive colour photographs. A student learns his best, only when photographs and drawings are provided together.
This manual should benefit not only the students of surgery but also all the surgeons, as every surgeon to whatever specialty he belongs to, may end up managing the gastrointestinal tract.
If a surgeon is familiar with complications, and their expected days of occurrence, he or she can handle them before it gets complicated further. This also helps in performing the procedures carefully averting serious complications. In this book, the surgical procedures are shown in points with supportive illustrations, making them look very simple and understandable. The student should 6understand that the procedures are not so simple as projected in the book, but it highlights the basic principles. The student should also refer to operative surgery books and manuals for details. A colour photograph manual Gastrointestinal Surgery Made Easy authored by me is a good complement for this book, which deals with the operative procedures, step by step.
It is hoped that this carry-on-hand atlas will be of great help to all surgeons who deal with the gastrointestinal tract, by intention or accident.

The offer was readily accepted by me due to the exposure and teaching I have had during my career and more so, the colour photographs which I have collected in large numbers. Where colour photographs cannot support, illustrative drawings are the only solution, and at this juncture, my very sincere thanks goes to my daughter Dr Kirthana Rao, who has put all her precious time in drawing them.
