5PREFACE
The last few decades have witnessed noticeable advances in Medicine with an astonishing progress in Biochemistry. Medical students have to cope up with these advances; but, at the same time, cannot compromise the basic concepts that are essential to understand the clinical implications of each subject. Several excellent books are currently available for medical students studying Biochemistry but only a few books are available that highlight the core subject in terms of clinical importance.
This book is primarily written to provide medical students with clear accounts of those aspects of Human Biochemistry, which are important for understanding the biochemical basis of disease processes. Biochemistry is defined as the chemistry of living cells but it is preferable to use the term Clinical Biochemistry or Medical Biochemistry as the chemistry of diseases. The book includes the biochemical aspects that are essential for medical students in terms of examination as well as understanding biochemical aspects during their rotation in clinical departments.
I am fully aware that there will be further scope for improvement. I request the readers to let me know of any errors they find or any improvements they would like to add at my email address anna_aroor@hotmail.com
