7Preface…..
Neurology is a difficult subject in spite of advances in Diagnostics and Therapeutics since the end of 2nd world war.
Patients present with symptoms and signs which need careful evaluation to arrive at a Neurological Diagnosis. This book is author's approach to Neurological Diagnosis. The chapters are written and arranged in such a way as to give due weight to the subject under discussion in the 21st century, taking into consideration, principles of General Medicine, Embryology, Anatomy, Physiology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Neuroimaging: so as to increase the Diagnostic yield of a given neurological case under discussion and give impetus to clear thinking.
Drawings have been arranged in each chapter in such a way as to give Neuroanatomical and Neurophysiological meaning to the topics discussed on many diseases of the Nervous system which still need to be studied in greater depth in humans. The topics discussed in the text do not replace standard books and monographs on the subject of neurology.
I gratefully acknowledge the support and encouragement given to me by the publishers M/s Jaypee Brothers medical publishers (P) Ltd, New Delhi, India, in writing this book. My thanks go to Shri Jitendar P Vij, chairman and Managing Director of Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers, whose invaluable advice to me, to write this book has made me do extensive search of the Literature on the subject before structuring this book in a format that could be of aid to undergraduates and postgraduates in Neurology, bearing in mind that Neurology is one of the most 8dynamic medical specialties and there are more scientists involved in studying the Human brain than there are Physicists, Chemists, astronomers and Environmental Scientists. It is also a fact to be reckoned with that as we look in the wider universe to find our place on the evolutionary scale of living life and receive and interpret cellular signals, albeit with help of aids such as artificial intelligence, computerized network of the Brain Model, it is the human brain with its millions of Neurons and its trillions of connections which does make the subtle difference in understanding ourselves from Immunobiological point of view, lest we take a wrong path in applying newer discoveries and inventions from the laboratory concerning human life.
