5DEDICATION
This book is dedicated to Faith. Faith inspires confidence. Clinicians must win the confidence of patients; have evidence-based confidence on treatment protocols and therapies. Scientists hammer out the evidence to generate confidence in therapies and devices to be adopted by Clinicians.

9Preface
The Basic Needs to Achieve Wound Healing was conceived when we (Luc Téot and Raj Mani) with our colleagues from the World Union of Wound Healing Societies (WUWHS) planned to produce a textbook that would provide a guide to the ‘Basic needs’ to manage chronic wounds. Our colleague contributors continue to be specialists with vast experience in their specific areas of endeavour. Their contributions were received swiftly and are focused on the aim of the book.
Some of the direction altered through the journey which changed the book from being a publication in the World Union of Wound Healing Society series, resulting in this book, the aim and focus of which remain unaltered. The reader should, therefore, treat the book as one that presents elementary principles applicable in most situations.

A book project is long and complicated. The journey from conceiving an idea to delivering it in print is full of challenges some of which can be anticipated but others pop out of the blue. In this project, first acknowledgements are due to the contributors who responded to the call for chapters with zest and speed. Acknowledgements are also due to each contributor's base team that helped indirectly with this production.
