5FOREWORD
The author, Prema Dhanraj, has written a comprehensive text for care of burn patients from the perspective of nurses.
First and foremost in the mind of this basics are the responsibilities of the nursing team. The book is well organized into key sections. The first section includes an introduction to burns, which outlines the pathophysiology of burns, as well as the role of nursing in the management of these devastating injuries. of the book begins with acute burn care management. This includes fluid resuscitation to maintain fluid balance in these very difficult patients. Other issues addressed include pain management, tissue substitutes, the use of skin grafts and outpatient care. All of these issues are developed from the nurse's perspective. Early and late complications of burn injuries are also addressed. The book ends with sections on reconstruction and rehabilitation of the burn patient. Again here we have a comprehensive guide with the focus on nursing care and other nursing issues.
The author should be commended on this very comprehensive work. It is clear that not only seasoned nurses will benefit from this basics but also nursing students, medical students, and other health care professionals who are dedicated to the difficult task of taking care of burn patients. Indeed, the information contained in this manual for nurses, is comprehensive and clear. This body of work certainly is a valuable addition to our current literature dedicated to the care of burn patients.
