5Foreword
It gives me immense pleasure to write a few words for my dear friend and colleague who grew up with me in his professional career of which I am proud of.
This approach to the Hip Joint is an original design which has been tested in cadavers to prove its point. It has been presented worldwide in meetings and well documented in textbooks of repute.
The exact behavior of a pseudojoint has been well studied and demonstrated by arthrography which has never been done before.
It is a must for every postgraduate who embarks on Orthopedics as a career.

6Preface
I was brought up in Orthopedics by Mr G V Osborne (Senior Consultant Orthopedic Surgeon, University of Liverpool), who has himself described an original approach to the hip joint along with Professor Brian McFarland (Professor of Orthopedics, University of Liverpool), it was a great opportunity for me to work on this thought. I was deeply motivated by description of this posterior approach to the hip joint, as the routine posterior Southern Approach was being condemned for its dislocation rate, being from India where the Posterior Approach is used and taught to us by our teachers with great pride. Hence, I took active interest in devising and describing this approach with the help of one of the biomedical engineers who was associated with the then famous Sir John Charnley. I have used this approach till today with complete satisfaction and would not hesitate to recommend it to the younger generation of Orthopedic Surgeons.
I was very curious to know and find out what happens to the pseudojoint after such a simple operation like excision of the trapezium which gave a 7very good clinical result in the elderly. Hence, I evaluated the results of excision of the trapezium and also carried out arthrographic studies of this pseudojoint along with Professor Graham Whitehouse (Professor of Radiology, University of Liverpool) who encouraged me a lot to carry out this study.
