7Preface
Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology (FNAC) is now a well-recognized technique in diagnosis of various lesions. Increasing numbers of pathologists are now practicing cytology. Aspiration cytology is also included in the curriculum of the postgraduate training in pathology. Therefore, it is extremely necessary to know the various aspects of fine needle aspiration cytology.
In this book, Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology: Interpretation and Diagnostic Difficulties, I have discussed the important diagnostic features of aspiration cytology with multiple illustrations. The diagnostic problems of various lesions have been discussed in detail. I have mainly concentrated on the cytomorphology. However, the immunocytochemistry and other ancillary techniques have also been discussed. I hope that this book will help both the practicing cytologists and the pathology residents.

My particular thanks to Mr Subrata Adhikari (Commissioning Editor) for his continuous support. I wish to thank my wife Rini and my daughter Madhumanti for their continuous cooperation and patience towards me whose mind was always preoccupied. Without their support, it was not possible to write the book at all.
