7Foreword
Temporal bone dissection is the key to the mastery of otologic surgery. Systematic and frequent temporal bone dissection is necessary to visualize the complex relationship of the structures of the temporal bone.
In order to derive the greatest possible benefit from dissection, a step-by-step approach to the operations performed on the temporal bone is necessary. In this book, the common operations performed in otologic surgery are beautifully described and illustrated by the editors.
In December 1993, I had the privilege of conducting a neurotologic skull-base surgery course at Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. While there and since, I have come to know Dr Morwani well. I have admired him for his hard work and dedication to education. I congratulate his students, Dr Rahul Agrawal and Dr Sonal Modi, for the development of this excellent volume. I am sure that it will serve its intended purpose to guide young otologists to the understanding of the intricacies of the temporal bone. I congratulate them on their accomplishment.

9Preface
We were exposed to the expanding horizons of otology during our residency days when we attended the temporal bone dissection workshop at Dr Balabhai Nanavati Hospital, Mumbai, Maharashtra, India. It is out there that we realized that no surgical procedure in otology is outside our reach. Our voyage in the field of otology started from ear lobe repair and reached lateral skull-base under the guidance of Dr KP Morwani. And the journey still continues…
During the early days of voyage in the field of otology, we understood the importance of temporal bone dissection, which is not only the first step but should be a regular practice throughout our life, for mastery in otology. Along with hard-work and dedication, one important aspect is proper guidance to channelize your energy in the right direction. We are privileged to have had the guidance of our esteemed teachers.
We intend the book Temporal Bone: A Surgeon's Vision to serve as a guide to young otologists while doing temporal bone dissection and to familiarize them with the bone. The book would only serve as a guide and not a replacement of dissection.
