fm9Preface
The book is intended to address the obvious need for a concise text, which exists with regard to pediatric osteoarticular infections. Osteoarticular infection is an ever-evolving field. However, developments in the field of pediatric osteoarticular infections have lagged behind advancements in other areas of orthopedics, due to a variety of reasons.
The book is designed to be used either as a learning text or as a practical textbook in the clinical setting. The various osteoarticular infections in children and issues pertaining to their etiopathogenesis, clinical features, investigations and management options have been dealt with in systematic chapters. The chapters are organized in a logical sequence which can even be used for a quick referencing of topics.
As our understanding of pathology and ways to manage the pediatric osteoarticular infections has improved over the decades, yet some sections of the text may appear very ‘basic’. The contributors have used these ‘basics’ to build upon the relevant management strategies, suitable for present times, in various settings.
Our aim was to produce a text that is relevant to modern times. However, due to lack of resources in many parts of our country, we have tried to incorporate both the basic and advance management options in various chapters. It is an uphill task. The contributors have put in great efforts to provide practical details that can be used both in resource constrained set-ups and well-equipped centers. It is our sincere hope that motivated readers of this book will use this text to delve deeper into the less discussed aspects of pediatric osteoarticular infections.
