7Preface
Anesthesia is a specialty that provides pain-free environment in every aspect of human illness. Anesthesia is an upcoming branch; being specialized, most of the basic things are out of reach of MBBS students. Though the subject is easy, but due to lack of lectures and related text materials most of the students find it difficult to understand the basics of this specialty.
Essentials of Anesthesia and Critical Care is written with the goal of providing a concise description of the Anesthesia and Critical Care that is must to know by MBBS students. The text is formatted in a student-friendly manner which will not only help the undergraduate students during their theory exams but also help in solving Postgraduate Medical Entrance Examination (PGMEE) questions. Questions asked in previous years’ PGMEE have been denoted by “Q” as superscript in theory portion itself. Tables, line diagrams and flow charts have been added in each and every chapter for quick and easy grasp of the respective topic. Various important aspects related to the topics have been incorporated as “Key Points” in separate boxes. Each chapter is followed by review questions that include previous years’ PGMEE and National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Examination (NEET) based sample questions. Language has been kept very easy; and mnemonics have been added wherever necessary to help students retain information for long time. In a nutshell, it is a complete resource of anesthesia for undergraduate students. Be it professional exams, PGME examination or NEET examination, a student needs to look no further for anesthesia.
