9Preface
During the last few decades of our involvement as faculty in the department of hospital administration training young doctors from all over India and as administrators of various hospitals, we strongly felt a need for the book Hospital Administration: Principles and Practice. It is the comprehensive result of our long experience and knowledge gained over the years. Hospitals are unique and offer challenges to administrators. Though there are many books on the subject from abroad, there is need for books from Indian authors with experience. Faculties, students and administrators have often expressed the need in various forums. Towards this, we have made a sincere attempt to fulfill the demand and hope to improve in the future editions.
We have presented the various topics which are ‘must-know’ for every hospital administrator in this book. Clinical Care Services, Nursing Services, Support Services, Medical Records, Public Relations, Medicolegal Aspects including the recent legislations and Hospital Hazards are discussed. A separate chapter Evaluation of Hospital Services has been included. We are grateful to colleagues and authors whose contributions have been referred to in preparing this book. A reference list is incorporated in the book for the benefit of the readers for further reading and to acknowledge their contributions.
We would like to thank all those who encouraged and supported us during this venture. We would like to thank the publishers, M/s Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers, who are the pioneers in medical books. Their contributions deserve special mention and appreciation. We welcome comments, compliments and suggestions from esteemed readers for the future editions.
