7FOREWORD
To the best of my knowledge, no color atlas on skin tumors has been published throughout the country. This atlas is indeed welcome since an attempt has been made to integrate growing knowledge of skin tumors with clinical pictures of each condition. Most books on skin tumors tend to focus on either cutaneous T cell lymphomas or melanomas and miss out on the other benign and malignant lesions seen in common dermatology practice. In a regular textbook of dermatology, also the emphasis on skin tumors is often lacking and this atlas very much bridges that gap.
The authors have kept the text relevant to each clinical condition—simple and reader-friendly. The hallmark of a good clinician is his ability to make an accurate diagnosis and this book helps him do exactly that. Clinical descriptions are succinct and help the uninitiated to make a diagnosis. The atlas presents a multitude of excellent photographs of clinical conditions seen.
This attempt at an atlas of benign and malignant skin tumors as seen in the patients deserves kudos for the authors.

9PREFACE
It is a matter of immense joy and pride to present the much-needed Clinical Synopsis and Color Atlas of Skin Tumors. One of the beauties of dermatology is one-glance diagnosis, which aptly applies to skin tumors as well. As the available literature on skin tumors is less, we felt the need to contribute to the existing literature in some way and that prompted us to compile the data in the form of atlas. The main focus of this atlas has been on the clinical presentation of the skin tumors illustrated by photographs, which a practicing physician comes across in a day-to-day practice. Our attempt has been to make the diagnosis of skin tumors easy, so that a cursory glance at the patient will help in identifying the skin tumor.
We hope that this atlas will be of immense help to the undergraduate and postgraduate students of dermatology.

11ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I take this opportunity to thank my family for their untiring support in pursuing my academic ventures, especially my husband Dr (Professor) Parvaiz Ahmad Shah, Neurologist and Head, Department of Medicine, Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, my children Usaid, Usman and Saeedah and my father-in-law Mr Peer Sharief-u-din Shah, who have always endured my long hours on the laptop and encouraged me from time-to-time. My mother-in-law Mrs Syeda Shah, who is no longer with us would have really felt happy on seeing this book. My parents for whom no words of thanks can suffice instilled an academic bent of mind in me right from my childhood. I would like to share that my father Mr Peer Ghulam Hassan Shah and my mother Mrs Masuda Hassan have always taught me that an academic name commands more respect than more lucrative materialistic pursuits. My sister Dr Faiza, my brothers Dr Zubair and Dr Raffit, my brother-in-law Dr (Professor) GJ Mufti, my sisters-in-law Dr Rozina and Dr Rubina have always been there to support me. A special word of thanks to my sister-in-law Mrs Tabassum and her husband Dr Rafi Muzzafar for being always supportive whenever I needed their help.
My sincere gratitude to all my teachers at Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh, India, where I completed my postgraduation in Dermatology, Venereology and Leprology way back in 1996, especially Professors Bhushan Kumar, AJ Kanwar, VK Sharma and Sanjeev Handa for their untiring efforts, and sincerity in academic activities and at the same time becoming role models for their students to pursue academics with passion. My special tributes to my guide Professor Inderjeet Kaur, who is no longer with us but whom I can never forget and her memories will always be cherished by me as well as her other students, as she in her soft-spoken way, taught us with utmost precision dermatology and leprosy with all her invaluable experience gained over the years.
My special word of thanks to Professor GH Hajini and Professor Qazi Masood Ahmad, who were heading the department before me as they have taught me dermatology in my undergraduation at Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, and I feel probably that the seeds of dermatology were sowed in my mind at that time and, I also express my heartfelt gratitude to them for being very supportive towards me in pursuing my research work after I joined the Department of Dermatology, Government Medical College, Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, India, as a Registrar in 1996.
Before I joined medical school, there were some teachers for whom I have no words to express my thanks, Mr KL Handoo, Mr Kachroo and Mr Koul to name a few. Late Professor Abdul Hamid Dhar, who taught me physics was one of my teachers who would have felt happy to see the book and take pride in it.

Last but not least, a word of gratitude to all patients, who have really helped us in framing this atlas and without their help this atlas would have been a distant dream.
Iffat Hassan
It is a rare honor to author this atlas at an early stage in one's career. I would like to thank my guide and teacher Dr Iffat Hassan and all my other teachers for their able guidance and untiring support in the preparation of this atlas. My father Mr Peerzada Mohammad Ishaq Shah, my mother Mrs Haleema and other members of my family have always been there to support me and it is because of their blessings and dedication that I have been able to accomplish this dream and in the future also, I will try my level best to live up to their expectations.
