While there are many books on the subject of women's health, in my observation very few of them are truly written keeping the working primary care physician in mind. Therefore, while this book is written by the leading endocrine and medical specialists we have taken pains to design this book to provide endocrinologists, family practitioners, internists, physicians-in-training and students at all levels with what is needed to keep abreast with rapidly changing scientific foundations in clinical research, result and evidence-based medical practice in women's health and diabetes.
We certainly hope that this book is helpful in daily practice and it contains the information necessary to provide excellent care to women with diabetes.

I would like to thank the panel of authors Dr Ameya Joshi, Dr Chanchal Das, Dr Kaushik Pandit, Dr Nilanjan Sengupta, Dr Priya Bhave, Dr RM Anjana, Dr Ranjit Unnikrishnan, Dr Sambit Das, Dr Soumik Goswami, Dr Sudha Vidyasagar, Dr Sujoy Ghosh, and Dr Suresh Damodharan who have shown exemplary commitment. They have devoted many hours to writing, showing their dedication towards promoting scholarly activities. It has been a pleasure collaborating with Dr Rajesh Rajput and Dr Jubbin Jacob once more.
I owe a great debt to Mr Jitendar P Vij, CEO and Group Chairman, for his constant support. Thanks are also due to the publishing team of Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers, New Delhi, India, especially Dr Neeraj Choudhary, Senior Medical Editor, for his outstanding leadership, and Ms Shweta Tiwari, Editorial Coordinator, for ably leading the final production of this book.
15Acknowledgments
Thanks’ giving is a pleasant job, but it is nonetheless difficult when one sincerely tries to put them in words. Words will never be enough to thank everybody without whose help this work would not have been possible.
Firstly, I wish to thank almighty God who installed me enough courage, conviction and tenacity to continue this work and successfully complete it. I wish to acknowledge the help and support of my colleagues Dr Sarita Bajaj, Dr Jubbin Jacob, and all the contributing authors in writing of Diabetes and Women's Health.
I acknowledge the help and support of entire team of Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd., New Delhi, India in shaping of this book.
Last, but not the least, with deepest sense of love and gratitude, I am thankful to my wife Dr Meena Rajput and my children, Siddhant and Vasundhara, who helped me out in most difficult times by their constant encouragement, advice, love, and care, which added to the stores of my energy to complete this work in time.
Lastly, I take immense pleasure in introducing this book to all those, who are involved in care of women suffering from diabetes and other endocrine problems.
17Acknowledgments
I take this opportunity to acknowledge my co-authors and contributors. The foremost among them being Professor Donald Pearson (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Scotland) with whom I worked in the six months, this book was being prepared. His long standing interest and wisdom in pre-conceptional care of women with diabetes and transition care for adolescents and young adults have been distilled in the two chapters I have authored with him. Secondly I acknowledge, Dr Hamiel Orit who agreed to contribute an excellent chapter on eating disorders. My sister-in-law Dr Roopa Verghese (a clinical obstetrician with interest in gestational diabetes) contributed a valuable chapter on the intrapartum management of patients with diabetes.
I am grateful to my long suffering wife, Julie who let me spend many free weekends over this book. My parents, Jagan and Lisa who keep proudly showing my work to people unlikely to appreciate the contents inside!
My co-authors, Professor Sarita Bajaj and Professor Rajesh Rajput with whom I have published previously, have been a delight to collaborate with for the second time.
The publishers, Jaypee Brothers represented by Dr Madhu Choudhary, Senior Medical Editor and Shweta Tiwari, Editorial Coordinator have been extremely professional and helpful in their dealing which is the reason the book got finished in time.
