7Foreword
It is both a pleasure and a privilege to write a foreword for the 2nd edition of IAP Color Atlas of Pediatrics. The enormous collection of images compiled in the first edition has already notched its place as one of the best formats compared to other atlases available currently in the global market. The second edition of the Atlas with more outstanding images and upgraded sections clearly sets a new standard as a pediatric reference and is certain to become an indispensable tool for practicing pediatricians, graduate and postgraduate students of pediatrics. The book with its visual treasure shows the pictures, we often seek but have difficulty findings.
This disease manual reflects an intensive effort by contributors and reviewers. I congratulate Dr A Parthasarathy (Editor-in-Chief); Dr Rohit Agrawal (Chief Academic Editor); Drs Nitin K Shah and Vijay N Yewale (Academic Editors); Drs Piyush Gupta, Ritabrata Kundu, and Digant Shastri (Executive Editors); and Dhanya Dharmapalan (Publication Editor) including the dedicated contributors of the 22 sections for their magnanimous and magnificent effort in bringing out this remarkable atlas.
I also take this opportunity to congratulate M/s Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd, New Delhi, India, for the excellent colorful presentation matching international standard.

9Foreword
I am delighted to write the foreword for the second edition of one of the most coveted publications of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics. I have been fortunate to have been associated as the Academic Editor of its first edition and happy to have witnessed its roaring popularity among pediatricians and students due to its unique compilation of hundreds of high quality clinical illustrations which speak for themselves. The descriptive notes on the upgraded pictures along with the updated management suggestions by the leading experts form an icing on the cake for this atlas. Also, the book manages to cover a vast spectrum of pediatric specialties makes it a priceless asset for anyone who deals with child health care.
I congratulate the entire team which includes the contributors, section editors, editorial board and M/s Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd, New Delhi, India, who have worked relentlessly to achieve this milestone for the book. Above all, my hearty congratulations to the ever-enterprising respected Dr A Parthasarathy, whose untiring efforts are the main powerful driving force for the entire success story behind the second edition. My best wishes for many such successive editions and an evergreen popularity to make a permanent mark in the history of medical literature.

11Preface to the Second Edition
It is a matter of pride that in a short span of three years, it has necessitated to bring out the 2nd edition of IAP Color Atlas of Pediatrics, which perhaps is the best in its format compared to other atlases available currently in global market as pointed out by the international review agency. When we approached the authors to revise and update the text for the 2nd edition, almost all of them felt that there is hardly any necessity to revise as the original presentation; is relevant even today which serves as state-of-the-art desk-top reference volume. Few felt that few more images can be provided to enrich their existing text, and they have done so by the way of upgrading their sections.
We are grateful to all the authors who have taken pains to go through the text of the first edition and done the needful despite their busy academic and professional schedules. We are equally indebted to our publishers M/s Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd, New Delhi, India, who have done their best to maintain the excellence of this publication in the present edition without compromising the quality. Particular mention should be made about Dr Dhanya Dharmapalan (Publication Editor) for shaping the first edition to the present state-of-the-art presentation.
We sincerely hope that practicing pediatricians, faculty of pediatrics in medical colleges, graduate and postgraduate students of pediatrics as well will find this treatise more useful to acquire practical knowledge through visual perception, and practice the management guidelines to benefit the children and adolescents under their care.

13Preface to the First Edition
It is a matter of pride for the Indian Academy of Pediatrics to present the IAP Color Atlas of Pediatrics, the first ever publication of an atlas in the history of this Academy. The atlas is modeled after the Color Atlas of Tropical Pediatrics published by the American Academy of Pediatrics (2009) for which Dr A Parthasarathy, Editor-in-Chief, IAP Textbook of Pediatrics as well as of this color atlas, was invited to serve as one of the international associate editors. In fact, this atlas is one-step ahead of Color Atlas of Tropical Pediatrics as it includes the entire pediatric science in its ambit.
The IAP Color Atlas of Pediatrics provides an unsurpassed visual archive of pediatric illnesses both common and rare, which a health professional dealing with children, encounters in day-to-day practice. Each colorful image, which speaks volumes for itself, is supplemented with a brief description of the condition and suggested management. The images are well organized under 22 specialty sections and furthermore, the conditions have been arranged in an alphabetical order for easy and convenient reference. Each section has been framed and edited by the most experienced key opinion leaders in the respective pediatric subspecialty field from across the country. This has, in addition, undergone a further level of scrutiny by well-known academicians.
Rather than a highly detailed, academic text, the IAP Color Atlas of Pediatrics is a practical working resource. This rich color atlas features more than 1000 high-quality color images and relevant text details with a brief note on management which spans almost every pediatric specialty. It focuses on the early and rapid diagnoses of various pediatric illnesses, and offers an outstanding, must have, ready-reckoner asset for students and in the practitioner's office shelf.
Though private publications of color atlases in neonatology, pediatrics, dermatology, etc. are available, but there is no authentic publication by a professional body. It is indeed a pleasure to thank all the section editors and contributors for their invaluable contributions in making this a bright academic success. We also thank the publishers for providing this wonderful, superior print and flawless book.
It will always be a relentless endeavor of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics to provide better and latest information in pediatrics. We welcome your feedback and criticism from all our readers which will only motivate us to improvise and deliver the best.
We dedicate this wonderful creation to the parents and tiny tots in whose sufferings we have discovered learning experience.
