7Foreword
In Emergency Medicine, Dr Arjun Mehta, has set out to produce a clear, concise and comprehensive text of acute medicine. Medical students and junior doctors alike will appreciate its brief, informative style and easy portability. Dr Mehta has accumulated experience of acute care over many years of clinical practice, and the text of the book summarizes the essential elements of care of the commonly encountered medical emergencies.

9Preface to the Second Edition
There are many books on clinical medicine and emergency medicine, but being very big, they are either in the library or in the office but never at the bedside where it is needed most. The second edition of Emergency Medicine has been extensively revised and updated to include essential information about diagnosis, differential diagnosis and management of acute medical problems. It also includes a chapter on emergency dermatology. It is helpful for final year medical students and practicing junior and senior doctors who are likely to encounter these medical problems.

11Preface to the First Edition
There are many books on clinical medicine and emergency medicine, but being too big to put in the coat pocket, they are either in the library or in the office and never at the beside where it is most needed. The book has been written with this ideal in mind. It is pocket size and is readily available at the bedside at times of emergency. The aim of the book is to give confidence in differential diagnosis and management of acute medical problems, and is intended to complement the standard textbooks in clinical medicine. It is useful for medical students, and practicing doctors, who are likely to encounter these clinical problems.
Arjun Mehta
