Abstract

Aesthetics is the science which deals with delaying of intrinsic aging, and avoiding extrinsic aging. Beauty is skin deep, so goes the popular adage. However, an aesthetic dermatologist is convinced that beautification is not just skin deep, but sometimes it delves deeper into the subcutaneous tissue and beyond. Dermatologists are the qualified specialists to treat skin and its related disorders. They understand the dynamic processes inducing photodamage, skin aging, and wound healing. Aesthetic practice is different from clinical dermatology practice, with patients otherwise healthy demanding unreasonable remedies and cures to alleged skin ailments. Centers for training in aesthetic dermatology and components of training in aesthetic dermatology are covered in this chapter.
