When an author gives us the privilege of presenting his book, we are certainly honored; but we also know that he/she proposes a challenge that must be faced with academic responsibility and all the critical judgment that experience allows us to play.
This book has been conceived as a compendium of skin manifestations that may arise in patients with diabetes. But it is also a call to professional reflection about the importance and impact of diabetes in its broad spectrum, from the pathophysiology of the skin to each of its components, including the appendages. In 14 profusely illustrated chapters, written by renowned specialists from Argentina and other countries, the reader begins a path from the most basic concepts—definition, classification and diagnosis of diabetes— continues with its cutaneous manifestations, infections and skin alterations due to vasculopathy and neuropathy. Skin markers have also been described which alert us that there is something beyond what we see. The course culminates with the treatment and the problems induced by antidiabetic treatment, emphasizing the attention and the multidisciplinary approach and management.
I have no doubt that this contribution of Dr Emilia Noemí Cohen Sabban is the result of an arduous and complex task: to gather in a book the experience of many years of exercise of the medical profession and teaching. For this reason, I consider that this work is of great value not only for the dermatologists but also for the internist doctors and for those who work in other specialties of the art of curing, since medicine covers the organism as a whole.

fm11Preface
I started in 1992 as Assistant of the Section of Internal Medicine and Skin at the Dermatology Division of the Hospital de Clínicas José de San Martín, University of Buenos Aires, Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Diabetes, as a disease that can affect all ages, all races, any sex, but fundamentally every organ of the body, caught me right away.
We have worked multidisciplinary since then, examining, diagnosing and treating diabetic patients.
I've come a long way, which inspired me to dump in this book, all that I have received over the years.
I hope the gratitude I feel is reflected in the usefulness this book has for all those health care professionals, who work with diabetic patients to whom we can benefit.
