This chapter describes the universal precautions and infection control measures. Three standards of precautions are follows as consider all the patients are infectious, consider all sharps are infectious, and consider all body fluids are infectious. Types of standard precautions hand washing, gloves, face mask, disposal of sharps, and containment of soiled linen. Transmission based precautions, measures to be taken after needle stick injury, prevention of ventilator associated pneumonia, prevention of surgical site infections, prevention of catheter associated urinary tract infections (CAUTI), and prevention of central line and peripheral line infections are also discussed in this chapter.
