Foreword
The authors here have written a concise description of the role of computer assisted surgery (CAS) in total knee replacement (TKR). Their purpose is to explain in a stepwise manner, what type of information CAS can deliver. For many surgeons, CAS is faulted for delivering too much information and often the interpretation of these numbers is difficult. In this well written manuscript, the authors describe a way to better interpret the information provided by the computer during a TKR. The clarity of their writing along with excellent photos and their insightful step by step analysis of the data available from a state of the art CAS system will make this a valuable addition to the literature. The lead author, Professor Graichen is a very experienced CAS surgeon, having used the technology in 100% of his cases for over 10 years and his experience is reflected in the valuable insights provided in the manuscript. The book will be welcomed by both, the surgeons who already use CAS as an excellent review and the surgeons who are less familiar with CAS technology as an excellent introduction to the benefits of CAS in TKR
